               Building Teamwork

       to Create Unity and Harmony

One "game" that is played with families is based on teamwork.  This involves three people working closely together to achieve a goal.  These pictures show nursing students who came to the ranch weekly for several weeks to learn how Therapy Horses can help children and adults with disabilities.  Often the entire family is involved with the disabled person and this game demonstrates how working together towards a common goal can create a sense of unity and purpose, instead of frustration.

Three people link arms: the person in the center is the "brain," the person on the right can only use his/her right arm and the person on the left only uses his/her left arm.  The "brain" gives instructions and the right and left arms move accordingly, as they all must work together to achieve the desired outcome.

The pictures of putting a halter on the horse involve holding the horse still, putting the halter over his muzzle and ears and then fastening the buckle.

The other pictures illustrate putting a saddle on the horse. The participants change positions and must work together to hold the horse, get the heavy saddle on his back and buckle it tight.   Mission accomplished!

This game emphasizes the value of working together and the satisfaction that can be realized when each person is appreciated for his/her contribution.
